Cheryl Reinwald: Nurse is Beating Squamous Cell Carcinoma Skin Cancer with Cannabis Oil.Cheryl Reinwald has been a nurse for 30 years. She’s worked in nearly every healthcare capacity including emergency rooms, surgery centers, and integrative medicine. Cheryl is also a wife, mom, grandma, yogi, and fitness enthusiast. When she noticed something unusual on her skin last year, Cheryl’s instincts told her it was serious. Cheryl had basal cell carcinoma in the past, but this time was different.
Her instincts were correct—she was diagnosed with Squamous Cell Carcinoma.Cheryl’s time working in integrative medicine trained her to treat the whole patient, instead of the symptoms. Integrative medicine employs a holistic approach that considers improving the patient’s entire physical condition in addition to targeting the specific symptom. Cheryl followed this approach to fight her skin cancer.
Working closely with her integrative medicine doctor, Toni Bark, they put together a health plan to fight the carcinoma. Dr. Bark designed a special diet to reduce inflammation, and even invited Cheryl to her home for cooking classes. Bark also suggested using medical cannabis to treat Cheryl.Knowing it would take awhile to get Cheryl’s medical cannabis card, Bark immediately prescribed a CBD regimen in November of 2017. The Squamous Cell Carcinoma had already shown signs of improvement in the 4 months it took for the medical cannabis card to arrive.
Cheryl excitedly began using medical cannabis in March of 2018 and has seen significant improvements since then. Cheryl makes her own salve using concentrates from PDI Medical, a dispensary Cheryl feels has more medical expertise than other places. She found other dispensaries often suggested items without reasonable medical explanations.Cheryl chose PDI Medical after a consultation with Joseph Friedman, a PDI Medical Pharmacist. Friedman patiently took the time to listen and come up with treatments that were in line with Cheryl’s medical beliefs.Cheryl now works closely with Joseph as well as PDI Medical product specialist, Elle, to find products that work for her. “It’s worth the long drive to PDI Medical,” Cheryl explains, “I know that they have the expertise and experience to help me. I wish more doctors would be open to cannabis in their medical treatment. As a nurse, I’ve encountered so many doctors stuck on traditional dogma such as pharmaceuticals or surgery.”Cheryl cautions that you can’t rely on cannabis alone and strongly encourages patients to reduce their intake of sugar and processed foods. Cheryl is thrilled with the progress she is seeing and is confident that she is doing what is best for her and her family.NOTE: Cannabis has shown potential for helping treat certain types of cancer and alleviating some of cancer’s symptoms. However, much more research needs to be done into the medical benefits of cannabis. Accordingly, before choosing cannabis or any other type of treatment, PDI Medical strongly urges you to speak with your doctor for advice. PDI Medical’s licensed pharmacists and other healthcare professionals can work with your other medical care providers to make sure that you are getting the best and most complete medical care possible.
Medical Cannabis helps local Professional vocalist overcome RA
Ashley England, successful businesswoman, professional vocalist, rock star, wife, daughter, and friend/patient of PDI Medical. A full life that unfortunately was made difficult with a Rheumatoid Arthritis (RA) diagnosis when she was only 15 years old. Now 27 years old, Ashley is please to say that she has her RA under control thanks to Medical Cannabis.
For many years Ashley suffered with her RA. She saw rheumatologists, was prescribed many heavy duty meds and suffered not only from this debilitating disease but the side effects of potent drugs. In 2016, with the assistance of PDI Medical, she found the right cannabis solutions and completely changed her life. Prior to trying medical cannabis she was on 40 MG of Prednisone for 10 years as well as a host of other strong RA drugs. Now Ashley is so happy to say that she is down to 6 MG of Prednisone and on track to be completely off all steroids by this fall! Ashley says, “ now that I have an option for treatment that helps me without side effects I will never go back. I am proud to say that medical cannabis works for me and I want to share my story so that others can be helped.”
Ashley’s rheumatologist at Rush University Medical Center finds her progress amazing and he can’t believe the change in her lifestyle. She had tried every RA drug available including Humira (biologic immunosupressive drug). She found that prescription drugs helped for awhile and then she would suffer severe side effects. Now she is off all but the small dose of prednisone and has no intention of trying any other prescription drugs. Her doctor has been supportive of her medical cannabis use because he sees the difference it has made in Ashley’s life and he is very interested in learning more about it. Ashley sees the importance of educating medical professionals to help eliminate the stigma associated with cannabis.
With RA, Ashley found that not every day was horrible but that she would have flareups that would shut her down. That was before medical cannabis. Now, she is more confident in her day to day. She has joined a new band and works as a professional vocalist singing at weddings, private events and parties, and local music venues.
Ashley married 2 years ago and is able to enjoy a full and active life. You can find her music at www.ashleyenglandmusic.com
We are proud to say Ashley sang at our Medical Cannabis expo last year. Once again in the fall when we have our second expo, Ashley will be performing and you can hear her live!
Ashley chose PDI Medical as her professional dispensary originally because of a family member recommendation. She checked it out online and emailed Joseph Friedman, PDI Medical Owner/Pharmacist. She was so please that he emailed back immediately, answered her questions, and suggested a personal consult. Ashley appreciated that Joseph was a pharmacist and that he took the time to walk through her condition and treatment options. During her first visit, she also met with our Cannabis Nurse, Sarah who impressed Ashley with her medical knowledge. Sarah really explained what was going on and how cannabis could help her condition. Ashley appreciates the hands on consulting and the medical expertise she gets from PDI Medical staff and says that she is more than happy to drive an hour to be a PDI Medical patient. Ashley says, “Cannabis is a huge part of my life because it helped me eliminate my struggles. I can be more confident in my day to day. I love PDI Medical because they care about me. I love the staff and I love what Medical Cannabis has done for me.” Thank you Ashley, we love you too!
